Getting Away From It All When You Can't Escape
Very few people have the luxury of being able to take time out whenever they feel the need to escape. Jobs, childcare and general life responsibilities tend to get in the way of enjoying the freedom of carefree living.
Escape From It All
Very few people have the luxury of being able to take time out whenever they feel the need to escape. Jobs, childcare and general life responsibilities tend to get in the way of enjoying the freedom of carefree living. That doesn’t mean that you have to wait for your annual holiday time to come around before you can get away from it all. With a little imagination you can experience the fun, thrills and relaxation of a holiday adventure any time that you need a break.
Hit The Open Road
Exploring a new corner of the world is exciting and opens up your mind to unlimited possibilities. When you don’t have the funds or the available time to visit your dream destination you can adapt your plans and enjoy a mini road trip much closer to home. If you live in the city, step out of its boundaries and into the countryside for the day. Visit areas of your expanded neighbourhood that you have yet to discover. You can drive there by car, or you can use public transport. Stop off along the way to explore interesting little shops and cafes.
Explore Your Local Scenic Spot
Although you may not live in a glamorous scenic location there is bound to be an area to grab your attention. Pack up a picnic and head for the local woodlands or nearby beach. If you live in an urban area try viewing your scenery with a fresh pair of eyes. Take a camera along and appreciate the beauty of your space through the lens. You’ll discover new things about your neighbourhood, and also about your creativity.
Community Spirit
Most communities have events and social gatherings arranged throughout most of the year. There is always something going on around you. Sign up for a class in salsa dancing or pottery, or commit to helping others in any way that you can. Getting involved in local community projects is a great way to meet other people who live in your area. If you’re someone who is super organised you could even plan your own community social event.
Plan A Themed Night In
Get into the holiday mood by planning a themed party night. Take inspiration from the destination of your dreams and decorate your home/garden space with items that create the perfect ambience. If you long to visit the Caribbean create a menu that features tempting tropical treats. Invite friends and family to come along, dressed in the appropriate manner. Choose music and entertainment that complements your theme and gets you into the holiday spirit.
Create A Zen Zone
Not all dream holidays are about having a wild time. Some people long to escape to a retreat where they can find themselves. Whilst you may not be able to recreate a Tibetan landscape or tropical oasis in your backyard, you can find your own Zen zone outdoors in nature. If you have a garden, create your tranquility space in an area that you find appealing. Build a mini altar and decorate it with flowers, candles and personal objects. A comfy cushion or garden chair is the ideal feature for your meditation corner.
If you don’t have a garden, patio or balcony, create your sacred space in a quiet spot in a local park, community garden or woodland area. Having a special private place that you can visit often gives you an opportunity to escape whenever you need to soothe or connect with your soul.
