I live in the north of England with my 3 gorgeous Labradors, who make me smile and bring me happiness each day.  I enjoy singing, playing guitar and attending soccer matches and live music events in my spare time.

For most of my life, I have worked in the charity sector, which has involved helping people in various capacities, and I get a lot of pleasure from seeing people who are initially very unhappy begin to set goals for themselves, and eventually achieve them.  It's a great feeling to know you have helped someone and enriched their life in some way, even if it is only a small thing you have done for them.

By using the Tarot Cards and my Clairaudient and Clairsentient abilities, I feel I am able to help people by allowing them to look at their options and then go on to make appropriate life choices for themselves.

I am friendly and approachable, and I have had my own bad times and knocks in life that I have had to fight back from.  I feel this allows me to empathise with others and show them some understanding and concern.

What do you like most about giving readings to clients?

I enjoy talking to people from different walks of life and different backgrounds, but my favourite thing is when clients come back to me a few months after a reading and tell me I have been accurate and what I have said has actually happened.  I think that gives any reader the most pleasure of all.

How would you say you are typical of your star sign?

I am compassionate, artistic, musical and spiritual.  I am sometimes too trusting, a bit of a dreamer, and I dislike cruelty of any kind.

When do you remember being first aware of your gift?

When my Grandfather died and I was 9 years old, I knew then that I had some sort of spiritual gift.  He never spoke to me directly, but I could often feel him there, and often even smell his presence.  I would walk into a room and it would smell just like the house where he used to live with my Grandmother. Even now, I can sometimes feel him holding my hand, particularly in times of need.

I have had various proofs of my spiritual gifts over the years, but one particular experience still sticks with me.  In 2009 I did the Moonwalk in Edinburgh and raised over £2,000 for breast cancer.  The walk takes place at midnight and it is either 13 or 26 miles.  I did the full marathon, and the first few miles were all hills.  I was beginning to think to myself, despite the training I had done, that if it was all going to be like this, I would struggle to finish.  But going up Arthur's seat, I heard a clear voice as if from the crowd in front of me.  It was a cheerful shout of support, and I knew at once it was my Auntie Helen, who had died around 10 years previously.  She used her pet name for me that she called me as a child, something only she ever called me, and the message was: "Come on Gemma, keep moving!"  I never doubted for a minute that it was her.  Being blind from birth, I've always had an excellent ability to recognise peoples' voices.  But being very tired at that point, I didn't stop to consider the implications.  I just smiled, and felt a lifting of my spirits that came from somewhere very deep within.

So my sighted guide and I finished the walk in 8 hours 20 minutes, and took an early train back home.  I was sleepily wading through the many voicemails and texts when I came wide awake.  I heard my Cousin Paul's voice on the phone, telling me that his Son Alex had turned 18 yesterday, and that they were all sitting there wishing me luck and celebrating, and thinking of Nanna Helen, as his children called my Auntie.  And I knew then what had happened.  She'd been allowed back just for a short while, to visit her first Grandson on his 18th birthday, and give me the encouragement I needed to complete that Moonwalk.

What is your most memorable experience with a client?

I read once for a lady who asked for a general reading.  She gave me very little at first, which can sometimes make it harder to connect, but I carried on until eventually we came to relationships.  I asked her if she'd been deceived in some way or was having a difficult time, and she completely broke down and told me she was in an abusive relationship that she needed to get out of.  During the course of the reading I told her that she would not only find a new relationship, but a new job as well.  I thought no more about it, until she rang back over a year later.  She didn't want a reading.  Just to tell me that she was much happier now and had the new boyfriend and the new job.  I remembered her particularly as she had the same name as my Sister, so I was just so pleased everything had come right for her, given how very upset she had been the year before.

What other experiences or qualifications do you have that you feel compliment your work as a reader?

I have done my Reiki Level one and hope to do the Level 2 soon.  Using Reiki, I am often able to pick up injuries or areas of a person's body that need unblocking, as I get a fizzing sensation in my hands when I touch them.  I once did Reiki on a complete stranger, and my teacher asked me afterwards what I had found.  I showed her his knees and shoulders where my hands had really grown hot and fizzy, and she told me these were old Rugby injuries.  I have often felt pain in my own body as well in the areas where their injuries are.

I have also worked on various charity helplines which means I am good at communicating with people and giving them the time they need without feeling they are being rushed.

What is the most important thing for a person to consider when they decide to have a psychic reading?

Think about what you want from the reading as the person is shuffling the cards or trying to connect with you.  This will help them a great deal and hopefully make the connection stronger.  Also, don't be afraid to ask near the end of your reading if there is something you want to know that has not been covered.  Lastly, if you are happy with your reader, don't forget to pop on to the Psychic Sofa website and write them a review, which will help other people decide which reader to choose.
