Autumn Equinox 22nd September
Some insightful information about the months ahead
Some of you may already know that we are approaching the Autumn Equinox on 22nd September. We can already see the signs as the leaves have started to fall and scatter, the birds and butterflies have started to shift southward and the Sun is gradually lowering in the sky as the days are starting to draw in a little quicker. [1]The word "equinox", derived from Latin, meaning "equal night".
The September equinox occurs the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator –( the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from north to south.) This happens either on September 22, 23, or 24 every year. Although things may seem a little unfocussed right now, it won’t last for too long as many of us recognise that each equinox and solstice as an astronomical event, which is caused by the Earth’s tilt on its axis and continuous orbit around the sun. Quite often as seasonal change starts to occur and the energy changes, and we too start to change. It is now time to gather things up and tie knots in the tasks that we need to, so that we can prepare for the long Winter months ahead.
Many people see this time of year as a period of excitement! The Sun will move into Libra on 22nd September bringing about beauty, joy and hopefully a new air of love. As we know Libra is ruled by Venus and she likes people to share their feelings and aspirations as she spreads the seeds. This is certainly a great opportunity to think about new love or artistic pursuits as on 15th October we have a New Moon in Libra which again is another perfect opportunity to bring in new love. Because Libra is an air sign it can also talk about the way we think as air rules our thinking, we can be powerful with our thoughts and send out positive affirmations on this exciting New Moon date. We may wish to start planning for the future, opening our minds up like a flower.
It could well be the time for test trials with love and relationships , is it make or break? Is it about giving and sharing? Or is it more about being independent? Quite often New Moons creep up on us without us being fully aware. The New Moon is renowned for marking emotional low tides as we are 80% water and the Moon has a gravitational pull on earth, so Moon and Earth very much react like magnets, therefore we can feel disconnected during New Moon cycles and because this New Moon will fall in the sign of what rules, love, peace and harmony we could start to feel rather analytical. But don’t give up! As usually this paves way for clarity, which many of us could be in need of right now.
Remember, that this should be a time for winding down and enjoying meditation. Many of us may feel inclined to take part in a new spiritual group or take up higher learning activity. We may decide to redecorate or change something about ourselves that enhances our beauty and wellbeing.
This is also a time of balance, sharing and letting go of the things that didn’t suffice during the Summer period.
Gifts are best used when they are shared! In order to prepare for the Equinox why not do something creative? If you have a gift share it!
Become a sympathetic ear for someone
We often feel better when we have helped someone, as often we find it answers a problem which we had ourselves. Helping someone else find clarity can also help us to create bridges and stepping stones, gaining a deeper understanding of how to handle relationship difficulties.
Pick apples, berries or pears
Nature has a magical way of providing for us in every season. We often forget to take time out and appreciate these gifts that nature offers us. Making something special with the fruits of nature can bring back the magical essence of life as we begin to remember where it all started and how quickly a seed can flourish.
Wind down and rest!
Write a list of all the things that you achieved during the Summer and scrap all the things that went wrong. Most people will have at least three things on their list that they can feel proud of. It is very easy to dismiss how hard we have worked but the September/October period can help to inspire us as we listen to the sound of the winds changing and watch the contrasts and colours of the leaves glisten in the sunlight. As the leaves fall, allow yourself to fall a little too. Fall in love, fall out of love, fall back, fall forwards, fall together or fall because you want to! Just go with the natural rhythm and flow - this is the perfect season to reflect!
