The Law of Giving
The benefits of giving and fulfilling your life
Have you ever felt good because you have made someone else joyful? Presented them with a gift and watched their souls fill up with light? It’s a satisfying feeling isn’t it? Nothing quite satisfies our souls than knowing we have done good or had an affect or profound impact on someone else’s’ life. Once you have started your journey in giving to the universe it is unlikely that you will want to turn back because it is an addictive process that creates a chain reaction, therefore – what you give is what you get.
The Law of Giving also states that the more you give, the more you will get back, those that hoard things and refuse to let go often find themselves in the same, repetitive cycles –even if it is the smallest change , such as donating a few pounds to charity each month, you’ll soon begin to notice a change in how flexible life is with you. An interesting way to look at the cycle of giving, is that when ever you do decide to give you are actually giving to yourself, you are opening up your aura, your heart and your soul and projecting generosity towards others, so by giving away something first you are deciding to open up the channels between yourself and the universe in order to receive more back into your life.
Whenever we want anything in life we have to open up in some way or another or it would be impossible to expand and grow. The same applies with giving as an act of kindness. If we think of giving and receiving as a form of balance we can soon begin to see the benefits of an open channel that draws more of the things that we actually need rather than the things that we feel we want. Deepak Chopra speaks about the universe operating through dynamic exchange in the sense that giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe. And in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives.
He advises the following affirmations:
I will put the Law of Giving and Receiving into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:
1. Wherever I go, and whomever I encounter, I will bring them a gift. The gift may be a compliment, a flower, or a prayer. Today, I will give something to everyone I come into contact with, and so I will begin the process of circulating joy, wealth and affluence in my life and in the lives of others.
2. Today I will gratefully receive all the gifts that life has to offer me. I will receive the gifts of nature: sunlight and the sound of birds singing, or spring showers or the first snow of winter. I will also be open to receiving from others, whether it be in the form of a material gift, money, a compliment or a prayer.
3. I will make a commitment to keep wealth circulating in my life by giving and receiving life’s most precious gifts: the gifts of caring, affection, appreciation and love. Each time I meet someone, I will silently wish them happiness, joy and laughter.
By repeating these beautiful affirmations daily we are automatically welcoming peace into our lives. Thinking of others and wishing them luck and abundance helps us to become free within ourselves. It also enhances our mood and makes way for surprises. For example, when you give to someone the energy usually comes back to you through an unexpected source in a very unusual way that often leaves you feeling bewildered yet full of gratitude.
There is no timing for when good things start to happen but you can be sure that good will come into your life if you do good to others. However, when you do choose to give to someone you must do it because you want to do it not because you feel you have to; remember that if you give gracefully you shall also receive gracefully. The law of cause and effect always guarantees that you shall receive all of what you give as life was built for giving. This doesn’t mean you have to give everything away, but a good start would be to consider the small things first and then see how you feel. Giving will always come at the right time in your life as it is a part of self growth, so do not worry about when, where and how just simply be open to the idea.
Here are some thoughts:
Give someone your time
Even if this is an irritating sales person on the phone, at the end of the day we all have to earn a living in some way and they are just doing their jobs like anyone else would. It could even be that you give an extra bit of time to a friend that you find irritating or draining – even though it seems like a pain to do it at the time, just do it anyway and see what comes back at you.
Give to charity
This doesn’t have to be a huge amount of money, it could be a small box on the counter of a supermarket for the blind, but whatever it is, just give what you can, remembering that there is always someone else that has it far worse than you.
Smile at people
Have you ever felt down in the dumps and then received a smile from a stranger? How good does that make you feel? It’s like receiving a small ray of sunshine in your pocket – something you can treasure throughout the day. If you notice other people feeling down around you, smile at them! Help them, open the door for them or just take care of them.
Compliment people
Compliments are gifts and we all need them. There is always something that we can find in people that is good. When we receive a compliment that touches us on a very personal level it brings us strength, vitality and confidence. Giving a compliment is a beautiful thing to do because you are planting a seed and helping that person to grow. Think of your compliments like the sprinkling of seeds in the earth that eventually break out into a beautiful flower. Notice how good you feel after you have given them.
