Transform your life by following your dream career path
After a lovely long weekend, does the thought of returning to your nine - five job fill you with dread? It doesn't have to be that way. Passion is not just something connected to romance, passion should permeate every aspect of your life - especially your work. Finding a career path that fulfils you and makes you happy should be your number one priority. After all, who wants to spend the next 40 years or more miserably toiling at a job you can't stand? It's time to take control of your life by finding a career you love.
1) Don't be afraid to walk away
If you hate your job and want to do something new, then you have to take action to achieve your passion. Hiding behind the desk at your safe but boring job won't help you live your dream of a job you love. Be brave and leave the job you dislike so much. It's scary but it's your first step towards you dream job. Start putting plans into action now so you can leave your job without running into too much financial difficulty. Save money now to cover rent payments and living expenses in future, while you adjust to a better career.
- Reset your frame of mind
If you think that finding your passion is too difficult or that you'll never be able to do it, then you won't. Your closed mindset is setting yourself up for failure. Approach passion seeking with an open mind. Observe people who are already doing what they love - take inspiration from them. Most of all believe you can do it, too. Be conscious of all the opportunities around you, have your eyes wide open for any ways of helping yourself achieve your passion.
- What do you enjoy?
Even if you don't yet have a clear vision of your career passion, you can begin to figure out what might work for you. Be curious. What arouses your curiosity? What interests you? What would you like to find out more about? Is it writing, art, crafts, technology, films, cooking, travel? What experiences have given you the most satisfaction and happiness so far? Make a list of the top five things that interest you. Don't think of them in terms of career, yet, just in terms of enjoyment. Then, for each experience, identify what two or three aspects of this experience you enjoyed. For instance, if you choose cookery as a top experience - what do you enjoy about it most? Is it following a recipe, choosing the flavours and spices yourself, or getting the family together to eat your cooking creation? This is important because each aspect indicates a different strength, for example, enjoying following a recipe indicates you have a talent for logical, structured thinking, while choosing the flavours yourself indicates a creative streak, or the family element suggests a strength of nurturing and sociability. Each talent can indicate your suitability for a different type of career.
4) Creating a profitable passion
Once you've identified your passion and found how it reveals your inherent skills, now you need to think about how you can turn passion into profit. Think about who might want your skills and who might benefit from them. Start creating - so you have examples to show potential clients. Think about skills you need to learn so you can maximise your potential, such as how to build a website to showcase your passion.
- Don't be a slave to money
You need money to pay the bills but it shouldn't be your primary motivation, if you want to work your passion. Be prepared to make financial sacrifices in order to achieve your goal. This is the main reason why so many people never achieve their passion. People are unwilling to take a temporary hit to their finances for a bigger goal. If you are a slave to material possessions you're unlikely to allow yourself to take a chance on a new venture that might mean your lifestyle will be compromised for a while. But people who can see the bigger picture realise that following your passion puts you into a position of power for the long term, meaning your earning potential is unlimited.
